Description:

Jester is an mid-early season, hard seeded barrel medic which was selected for its improved aphid resistance and was released as a superior replacement for Jemalong Barrel Medic. Jester demonstrates a semi-erect growth habit. It is well adapted and has proven itself throughout the low –medium rainfall areas of South Texas and Central Texas.

Jester is well adapted to a wide variety of soils from a sandy loam to red or dark clay. It performs best in soils with a 5.8 -8.5 soil pH. Jester will provide outstanding forage production and quality, it is suitable for hay or grazing and is relished by all classes of livestock and wildlife. It is also able to fix nitrogen, which is valuable for subsequent crop rotations.

Jester demonstrates high levels of hard seed (90%) and is able to regenerate well in the year after seed set or after one growing season. This allows Jester to build up a good seed reserve in the soil over time, thus enhancing persistence, particularly in improved pasture systems.
